Meet our 2017-2018 Intern: Jesse Bennett

Meet our newest intern, Jesse Bennett! Jesse recently graduated from the State University of New York College at Geneseo with bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Political Science.

This is not her first time in Nicaragua! In 2015, Jesse traveled to Nicaragua for a month with Glenn McClure’s Humanities II trip. During her trip, Enlace Project sparked her interest and upon returning to Geneseo she began working with Enlace Project at Geneseo, where she was involved with fundraising projects and study abroad promotion. She hopes to have a future career in international organization and cultural integration.

During her time with Enlace Project, Jesse will help foster new connections, run marketing, assist in leading trips, and continue to lead the English program. Recently, we had the opportunity to talk to Jesse about her plans for working with Enlace Project.

Q: Why do you want to work with Enlace Project

A: Over the last two years I have loved learning about what Enlace Project does and the impact it has on the community in El Sauce and elsewhere. I am excited to get involved further and be able to make connections with new people. My passion for international organizations and cultural integration is embodied by Enlace Project. It is about providing people with new opportunities and making connections to grow together as a community.

Q: This is your second time in Nicaragua, what is an experience you’ve had or will have in Nicaragua that you could not have in New York?

A: Volcano boarding is the first thing that comes to mind. I love to ski back home, it has been my favorite sport for 18 years now. But volcano boarding is a whole different game. The thrill of knowing you are sliding down an active volcano in a denim suit is unlike anything else. It’s especially different from skiing.

Q. What are your goals while you are here?

A: I want to experience everything Nicaragua has to offer and make new connections and friendships! The people here are beautiful and so kind and I hope to learn as much as I can from them while I am here. I also want to improve my Spanish skills! I have a passion for International Relations and international organizations and I am excited to be a part of one that impacts so many people
